Oklahoma City: Fun & Romantic Weekend Travel Guide
I get it. You’re probably taken aback by the title of this post, and you probably never thought of Oklahoma City as being the perfect place for a romantic weekend. This blog post is going to change your mind. For starters, check out the video recap of my trip.
My hubby and I love weekend getaways. We’re always on the lookout for cities that are quaint, not too far from home, have great restaurants, and fun things to do. Oklahoma City perfectly fit the bill. Are you ready for a fun, romantic, weekend getaway with bae? Then scroll down!
Where to Stay | The Ambassador Hotel
If beautiful boutique hotels are your thing, then stay at the Ambassador Hotel. This historic gem located in Midtown, is close to great restaurants and shopping. The hotel is within walking to distance to most of the restaurants you’ll read about in this post. The rooms are beautiful, the on-site French restaurant Café Cuvée is phenomenal, and there’s a lovely rooftop with great views of the city. I found the hotel to be charming, romantic, and perfectly appointed.
Where to Eat
Oklahoma City has a plethora of great restaurants. I honestly don’t know where to begin. I’m going to break my recommendations down into sections.
Breakfast | Waffle Champion & Hatch Early Mood Food
Waffle Champion is a popular OKC staple and its one of our favorite spots. If you’re in the mood for a quick, delicious, breakfast then check it out!
Don’t forget to take a photo in front of the mural located on the side of the building. If you’d like to learn more about Waffle Champion, then click here.
Hatch Early Mood Food
If you’re in the mood for a full service sit-down dining experience then visit out Hatch Early Mood Food. The food is fantastic!
Keep in mind that the restaurant is extremely popular and wait times are easily longer than an hour on weekends. We reserved our spot in line via Yelp, and toured some murals while waiting.
Lunch | The Hall’s Pizza Kitchen
I love my hubby dearly. However, pizza at The Hall’s Pizza Kitchen will always be bae. This restaurant is perfect for a relaxing lunch date and their rooftop is gorgeous. Plus, the mural makes for some pretty cute IG photos.
Dinner | Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse & Cafe’ Cuvee
I love it when we’re able to get dressed up and enjoy a romantic dinner. Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse in Bricktown, is the perfect restaurant for a romantic evening. The steaks are incredible and the ambiance is very romantic. After dinner, head down to the Bricktown Water Taxi for a ride around Bricktown.
Dinner | Café Cuvée
Wanna take a trip to Paris? We all know that Paris is the city of romance and you can have a little taste of it at Café Cuvée. This classic French restaurant is located right inside of the Ambassador Hotel.
The ambiance, service, and splendid menu make it a great choice for date night. We felt like we were in Paris! Our favorite dishes are the short rib and pan roasted chicken. Plus, don’t leave without ordering a cup of their amazing French onion soup.
Fun Things to Do | Take a Ride on the Wheeler Wheel
Can I tell you a secret? I’m afraid of heights. My hubby probably won’t admit it, but I think he’s a little afraid of them too. We put our fears to the side and decided to take a ride on the Wheeler Wheel. After all, aren’t Ferris Wheel’s supposed to be fun and romantic? The Wheeler Wheel relocated from Santa Monica to Oklahoma City and is a lot of fun.
Stroll Through the Myriad Botanical Gardens
There aren’t enough words to describe how gorgeous these botanical gardens are. During our visit we saw tons of couples outside taking pictures, and we even saw a wedding. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous! We plan on having a picnic outside the next time we visit.
Spend the Afternoon at the Oklahoma Museum of Art
Who doesn’t love a good museum date? The Oklahoma Museum of Art has tons of great exhibits. We thoroughly enjoyed spending time exploring the museum together.
