Come and Ride the Train! Grapevine Vintage Railroad

I'm a huge advocate of taking local adventures. As a result, I'm always on the look out for fun things to do within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Recently, I spent a day enjoying some of Grapevine's attractions and had a blast! Grapevine is known for maintaining its historical downtown corridor. The city isn't just focused on history but has a plethora of other attractions including Great Wolf Lodge, the Gaylord Texan, Grapevine Mills, and more.

I had pinpointed two attractions of interest, visiting the Be the Dinosaur exhibit and taking a ride on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad

If you're looking for a family fun activity then definitely check out this exhibit. Did you know that North Texas used to be a home for Dinosaurs? I had no idea until my visit. The exhibit features many interactive games that allow you to experience what it would be like to be an actual dinosaur. It was a lot of fun and extremely informative.

After spending about an hour at the  exhibit, my group and I headed over to board the Grapevine Vintage Railroad train. This is not your average train but is an actual 1920's Victorian coach. Make sure that you purchase tickets well in advance, as it sells out quickly.

Our train ride departed from Grapevine and took us all the way to the Fort Worth Stockyards. I found the value of this train ride to be incredible. It was nice to be able to explore historic Grapevine and the Fort Worth Stockyards in one visit.

I felt like a kid aboard this train. Although, I won't give away all the fun details of the ride you can definitely expect some theatrics. It's a great choice if you're in the mood for a fun and nostalgic afternoon. I definitely recommend bringing out of town visitors along on this ride.

Snacks and beverages are also available for purchase aboard the train. If you plan on riding during the Summer months then purchase first class tickets. This will allow you to enjoy riding in an air conditioned coach. The back of the train features open-air seating which is fun but can be a little difficult during the Summer heat.

Our train promptly arrived at the Stockyards at 2:30 pm. We had about an hour and a half to explore the Stockyards area. Keep in mind that the train departs at 4:05pm. You will have time to view the cattle drive, but keep an eye on the clock. My friends and I chose to walk around and sightsee. However, we would've had plenty of time to grab lunch if we had chosen to.

The train ride back to Grapevine was slightly more adventurous than the ride to Fort Worth. Make sure that you are aware of the terms and conditions stated on your ticket. Although, it is highly unlikely that your train could experience a delay it's still possible. Unfortunately, on the day of my return trip, my train experienced a 2 hour freight delay. This was a rare occurrence and is not something that happens frequently. However, the train staff did an excellent job of keeping all the passengers informed of the delay reason and provided constant updates. Kudos to the Grapevine Train Staff for making the best of a situation that was outside of their control!

I had a blast during my ride on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad. It was so much fun that I couldn't settle for just posting my pictures. Check out the video below for a recap of all the fun aboard the train!
